AFRICAN AMERICAN THEATER NIGHT FEATURING DANIEL BEATY
African American Theater Night is a unique program designed to bring progressive minded citizens and local leaders together for a spectacular evening of fellowship and community empowerment. The program will provide positive, family oriented, cultural entertainment for the entire community.
Award winning actor, singer, and writer Daniel Beaty will perform condensed version of his two stellar plays EMERGENCY & RESURRECTION.
EMERGENCY is the story of a slave ship that emergences in front of the Statue of Liberty in present day NYC. Daniel Beaty portrays a cast of 40 characters including a homeless man, a scientist, a republican business executive, a street vendor, and an 11-year old boy from the projects who all respond to the unexpected phenomenon. Through the characters’ individual responses to this surreal happening and their varied testimonies on identity and personal freedom, Emergency weaves a stirring commentary on what it is to be human and the longing to be free.
RESURRECTION is the story of six interconnected black males ages 10 – 60: a child scientist, a young man from the projects on his way to college, an ex-convict, a corporate executive, a health food store owner, and the Bishop of a mega church – who all experience an unexpected phenomenon on the same evening that changes their lives for ever. As they tell their stories, they resurrect individually and collectively over issues of physical, spiritual, & mental health, poverty, absent fathers, incarceration, addiction, relationships, and education.
Featuring Daniel Beaty’s unique blend of music, poetry, comedy, & drama, EMERGENCY & RESURRECTION are urgent, timely stories of possibility and hope.

TYLER PERRY'S THE MARRIAGE COUNSELOR
Starring Palmer Williams Jr., A.T. Grayson, Tony Grant and Tamar Davis.
A marriage is one of the greatest institutions in the world. It transcends happiness, laughter and the gift of love. Our culture today is designed to create futile circumstances that are sometimes hard to overcome in marriage. The # 1 urban playwright in the country introduces his newest stage production, Tyler Perry's "The Marriage Counselor" to profile relationships that put the quest to the test and tells the story of how in the end "love conquers all" (or makes you smarter.)
However, before you get to the end, Tyler Perry the comedic mastermind of this genre presents stories of the essence of marriage i.e. we love, we trust and we get mad and we compromise! Roger Jackson is a hard working man, an accountant by profession. He takes care of not only his wife Judith but his weed smokin' pop Stanley and her retired bible totin' mom, TT. The two parents living in the same household do not get along. Judith, the professional Ivy League educated marriage counselor gives marital advice every day. But she can't get her own marriage counselor!
The scene switches to the married couples seeking advice. Shattered, confused and broken. Dr. Jackson has an answer for them all, but a turn of events causes the marriage counselor to need some advice once a certain college friend drops by the office! The surprise twists and turns are unpredictable after that. Who are the real marriage counselors? What makes your marriage sizzle or fiz? Tyler Perry's "The Marriage Counselor" transforms the art of marriage, life and family with this entertaining experience on stage. It is a reflection of what goes on in married life.
The 10th production by Tyler Perry is truly a must see event with new extraordinary singing talent that is amazing. Don't miss the 10th stage production! The Jeanie C. Linders Fund presents
MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL
Since March 2001, the hilarious show Menopause The Musical® has entertained and inspired women from coast-to-coast and internationally. The work of writer Jeanie Linders, Menopause The Musical® is a 90-minute production which includes 25 re-lyricized tunes from the ‘60s and ‘70s and culminates with a salute to women who are experiencing The Change.
Set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance, the musical pokes fun at things such as hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and eating binges. The show’s intended message is that menopause is a passage, but it should no longer be The Silent Passage. It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal.
Menopause The Musical® has entertained audiences across the country in more than 150 US cities as well as internationally in 12 countries including Australia, Canada, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea and United Kingdom. Each week nearly 35,000 women of all ages and stages find their spirits lifted by the show’s light-hearted look at menopause. It is estimated that over 10 million women in 13 countries have attended a performance since the show’s opening in Orlando, Florida, in 2001.
Menopause The Musical® encourages a healthy dialogue about issues of aging and women’s health and provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness with female audiences. Recognizing the show’s great potential to engage and educate women on health issues, Jeanie Linders, writer and producer, took the show on the road as Menopause The Musical Out Loud™: Breaking The Silence Of Ovarian Cancer. The 2005 – 2006 tour raised nearly $500,000 for ovarian cancer research and awareness. A 2008 – 2009 tour is scheduled to kick- off in September 2008 in Greenville, South Carolina.

SINBAD
Actor and Comedian Sinbad arrived on the comedy scene with a “ hit’em in the face” style of comedy that has kept audiences laughing in the aisles for over the past two decades. He freely admits that he doesn’t knows any jokes, except for the ones that his dad told him “back in the day.” Sinbad tells stories, and boy does he tell stories! The basis of his humor comes from everyone he’s meets, everything he’s seen, and everything he’s done.
He’s able to take your painful trials or embarassing tribulations of day-by-day life, throw them back in your face, and make you laugh at it. He can make it happen without being profane. Not that he’s any kind of choirboy, but being the son of a preacher man he decided to keep his comedy clean after his father attended one of his early performances. Up to that time he had been ”semi-dirty.” Sinbad says that he learned that night that “funny is funny” and that masters of dirty comedy such as Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce could all work clean when necessary, and not lose a step.
Sinbad is internationally known for his starring appearances in hit movies like “Jingle All the Way,” playing opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger; “Houseguest” co-starring the late Phil Hartman and let’s not forget his film debut, “Necessary Roughness” where he did none of his own stunts! He has starred in the televisions sitcom “A Different World” as well as his own series, “The Sinbad Show.” Entertainment mogul Quincy Jones sought out Sinbad to host the UPN’s networks first late night talk show, “Vibe.” Sinbad has even written a self-help book entitled Sinbad’s Guide to Life: (Because I Know Everything). Sinbad has drawn legions of fans from his HBO highly rated comedy specials; “Brain Damaged” (1991), “Afros & Bellbottoms” (1993), “Son of a Preacher Man” (1996), and “Nuthin But The Funk” (1998). His annual HBO music concert series (Oh! You didn’t know he was musical?) “Sinbad’s 70’s Soul Music Festival” received the prestigious NAACP Image Award consecutively for two years as the “Most Outstanding Variety Series/Special.”
